Begin an adventure unlike any other with our Kathmandu - Upper Mustang and Manang Motorbike Tour - a journey into ancient traditions and staggering landscapes. This ride carries you to the threshold of the Tibetan plateau, opening a window onto a world forgotten by time, where the call of the wild leads you deep into the untamed heart of the Himalayas.
Upper Mustang - once known as the last forbidden kingdom - remains a stronghold of Tibetan culture and raw, unspoiled beauty. Its landscape is a striking mosaic of arid valleys, deep canyons, and strange rock formations, all shaped by centuries of history. At its heart lies Lo Manthang, a walled capital that still echoes with the region’s storied past. For motorcyclists, touring Upper Mustang has quickly become a coveted adventure, drawing riders from around the world who seek both the challenge of its rugged terrain and the pull of its living heritage.
Your journey starts in Kathmandu, where you'll weave through vibrant, bustling streets before escaping to the calm of Pokhara. From there, the road rises into the heart of Upper Mustang, taking you through the Kali Gandaki Gorge - the deepest river gorge on earth. Along the way, the Annapurna, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri massifs stand tall on the horizon, while stops at sacred places like the Muktinath Temple invite quiet reflection amid the rugged beauty.
The high altitude of Upper Mustang brings its own set of challenges, with elevations soaring past 3,500 meters. The weather here is famously unpredictable, so preparing for biting cold and sudden shifts in conditions is essential. Yet, amid the harshness, your journey will be enriched by moments of warmth and wonder—visiting ancient monasteries like Thubchen Gompa, witnessing the vibrant Tiji Festival, and connecting with the enduring spirit and quiet wisdom of the Mustangi people.
On the way back, you ride through Manang - a place that stays with you long after you leave. Its landscapes are raw and honest: high-altitude deserts, sweeping mountain views, and skies that feel impossibly vast. The scenery never stays the same for long. One moment you're winding through green lower valleys; the next, you're surrounded by dry, wind-sculpted terrain. Every stretch of the ride feels like its own small world
You pass through villages like Braga, Pisang, and Ngawal - quiet places where life moves at its own pace. Here, traditions aren't just preserved; they're lived daily. And the hospitality you'll find isn't performative - it's real, warm, and offered with a quiet kind of pride.
Riding through Manang asks something of you. The roads are rough and steep, and at times, it's hard. But that's exactly what makes it so deeply satisfying. Around every bend, you're rewarded with sweeping views of the Annapurna Range and the distant, snow-capped Dhaulagiri. And then there are the places that speak to something deeper - the peaceful Barga Monastery, the sacred Milarepa Cave. They remind you that this journey isn't just about the thrill of the ride. It's about history. It's about stillness. It's about feeling connected to something much older and much larger than yourself.
