About Muktinath Temple:-

The word Muktinath is derived from Mukti and Nath. "Mukti" means "Salvation or Nirvana" and "Nath" mean "God or Master. Mukti holds great significant for all spiritual people in the south Asian sub-continent. Each year it witnesses thousands of devotees flocking for worship in a hope to receive moksha (salvation) from the cycle of birth and rebirth. The temple of Muktinath is located at the base of Thorang la Pass in Baraha Gaun in the district of Mustang in the north central part or Nepal. It is about 110 km form Pokhara and 20 KM north of Jomsom at the altitude of 3800 meters from sea level. It is the gateway of world famous trekking route Annapurna circuit trekking and Upper Mustang trekking. The holy shrine at Muktinath is in a grove of trees and includes a Buddhist Gompa and the pagoda style temple of Vishnu Temple, Containing an Image of Vishnu. The Hindus call it Muktichhetra (Place of salvation) is one of the four religious sites. In the bank of Kaligandaki many Shaligrams (Ammonite) found here are considered by Hindu as incarnation of lord Vishnu and worship them.

Attraction of Muktinath tour:-

Mukti Kunda: Two holy water pounds in front of Muktinath Temple known as “Laxmi Kunda”. Taking a plunge inside these pond is believe to rinse away your sin.

Mukti Dhara: The bull head shape 108 water spouts in the back yard of Muktinath Temple where holy water from Gandaki River flows continuously. Taking a holy bath under these 108 Muktidhara is believed to bring salvation.

Jwala Mai Temple: A burning holy flame from rock located inside Dhola Mebar Gompa is just five minute walking distance, situated in the south region of temple.

Mharme Lha Khang Gompa: A Monastery located in the north part of Muktinath Temple is delecated to Guru Rimpoche also known as Padmasambhava.

Shaligran (Ammonite): Fossils of the Jurassic park age that found in Kaligandaki Riever. This black stone is symbol of lord Vishnu and kept in prayer room In the home.

How to go Muktinath Temple:

1. By Helicopter (3 to 4 hours ): Muktinath Darshan by helicopter can be done in 3 hours from Kathmandu and 1.5 hours from Pokhara. Normally an early morning you will fly from Kathmandu or Pokhara by helicopter and will be landed near Muktinath Temple. You will get a time for Darshan and Puja in Muktinath Temple then you will back to Kathmandu or Pokhara by helicopter.

(Note: There are regular helicopter flight for Muktinath Helicopter tour from Kathmandu and Pokhara so, helicopter need to be chartered. There are five to six seated helicopter is available for charter. So, good idea is gather 5 to 6 people in the group for Muktinath tour.)

2. By road and flight: Visit Muktinath Temple by road and flight is another good option. Rote will go like Kathmandu to Pokhara by drive or flight then next day early morning flight from Pokhara to Jomsom (10 – 20 minutes) and hike 20 minutes to jeep station then drive another one 1.5 hours Jomsom to Muktinath by Jeep. After arrive at jeep station you will walk another 20 to 30 minute or can hire a horse to reach Muktinath Temple.

3. By road only: Muktinath Tour by Jeep route will goes like this: drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (200 Km- 6 hours ) stay overnight. Next day Pokhara to Jomsom (170 Km - 9 hours) stay overnight. Drive to Jomsom to Muktinath have Darshan and directly back to Pokhara stay overnight and drive back to Kathmandu.

You can visit Muktinath through the Helicopter means as well. Along with muktinath, there are other various places you can espy like Mustang Tiji Festival. Do not forget the Upper Mustang trek after visiting up to Mustang.
